Tangerine Dream - Underwater Sunlight (1986)

The 21st album from this band from Germany.

The band was a trio with a lineup of percussion, guitars, grand piano, synths and voices.

A guest added computer programming.

I am no fan for electronica or the genre ProgArchives has (correctly) labeled Progressive Electronic. But it is impossible to ignore Tangerine Dream when you run a prog rock and eclectic music blog. Hence the many reviews lately of their albums.

I am a bit surprised how varied the different Tangerine Dream albums are in style and music. Not massive varied but varied enough to make collecting some Tangerine Dream albums pretty interesting.

Underwater Sunlight is a forty minutes long album and the music is a bit.... nautical. That means cinematic rock and I am pretty surprised to learn that this is not a movie soundtrack. It certainly sounds like one.

The music is sunny, fluffy and light. It has a good sound and there is some voices on the top of the good guitars and electronics here. The voices are mostly in the beginning of this album.

The result is surprisingly likeable album which I have to admit even a non-admirer of this band would really like a lot. It is indeed a good album and one I will put up as my so far favourite Tangerine Dream album.
