The second album from this band from Great Britain.
The band was a quintet with a lineup of drums, percussion, bass, guitars, keyboards, flute and vocals.
A handful of guests added woodwinds.
Ian Gillan had left Deep Purple and were a bit lost. So he formed this band and the first album, named Child In Time, was released in 1976. It was an album with soul and r'n'b music. I should have reviewed it and I may do so this summer if I can find it.
Ian Gillan Band released two more albums, Clear Air Turbulence and Scarabus, in 1977 before Ian Gillan split the band and formed a new band called Gillan. That band was a hard rock band. Deep Purple came calling again some years later and Ian Gillan has mostly been occupied with that band since the 1980s.
There is still a lot of r'n'b on this album and some soul. But the album has also a lot of funk and brass rock influences. Chicago is a band that has very clearly influenced and coloured this album.
I were hoping for some fusion on this album as it has been sold to me as a fusion album. There is very little fusion here. It is still a colourful album very much rooted in the US black music scene. This before that scene broke down the colour barrier and became mainstream.
The music is very varied and all over the place. It is still a decent album and well worth checking out.
