Cairo - Conflict And Dreams (1998)

The second album from this band from USA.

The band was a quintet with a lineup of percussion, drums, bass, guitars, grand piano, organ, synths and vocals.

Two guests provided backing vocals.

I bought their self-titled 1994 debut album and I loved it. It was a contrast to the death, doom and black metal I was listening to, distributing and indeed releasing back then.

I reviewed the same album for ProgArchives back in October 2008 and although I gave it a good rating, I was somewhat less impressed by it then.

The band has released two more albums and both of them are up for review here this month.

This one hour long album has lost some of the ELP, Genesis and Yes influences from the debut album. There are some of it still here but most of it has been replaced by a mix of Kansas and Dream Theater.

The sound is very much stucked in the 1990s prog metal scene.

The music is pretty heavy and a bit symphonic. It is also pretty harmonic. The vocals is based on both solo vocals and vocal harmonies.

There is a shortage of good songs here. There are some good details here but most of the music here falls a bit short. I am not particular impressed by this album although it has some qualities.
