Alpha III - Sombras (1986)

The third album from this band from Brazil.

The band was reduced to a one man project on this album with a lineup of computers, bass, guitars and vocals.

Amyr Cantusio Jr went on his own on this album after cooperating with others on the first two pretty abysmal albums.

We are again being treated to keyboards driven symphonic prog. That means a lot of keyboards.

The sound is a bit poor and I would therefore recomend the better sounding 2014 re-release of this album. That said, the band has this 1980s sound and we can live with that.

There is a lot of ELP influences here. The vocals and songs is more towards the AOR genre although we are still in the middle of the symphonic prog genre.

The music and ideas, not to mention the musical abilities, is a substantial step up from the two really bad first albums.

There are indeed some cool stuff here on this fifty minutes long album.

The result is a decent album. It is an album well worth checking out although the 2014 re-release is a better version of this album.
