The Samuel Jackson Five - The Samuel Jackson Five (2012)

The fourth and so far final album from this band from Norway.

The band was a quintet with a lineup of drums, glockenspiel, handclaps, percussion, bass, banjo, mandolin, guitars, bouzouki, theremin, pianos, organ, keyboards, synths, electronics and vocals.

Some guests added violin, theremin, woodwinds and vocals.

This is so far their final album and making it a self-titled album may have signaled a breakup of the band. However.... an half an hour long EP was released in 2014 and that will be reviewed next week in this blog.

This album also sees the band introducing vocals into their sound. Vocals works here more or less as instruments instead of pure vocals, although the lyrics makes sense.

The music on this forty minutes long album is post-rock and shoegazing. There are still some math-rock in their music but the cinematic rock parts of their music has gone.

There is some good bouzouki in their music and that is adding some more acoustic ambience to their normal fare of electric guitars, woodwinds and tangents.

Not all music here is good. Some of the stuff here is decent and some is good.

This band and their albums is a colourful addition to the Norwegian scene. It is well worth checking them out.
