Tritop - Rise of Kassandra (2023)

The debut album from this band from Italy.

The band was a quintet with a lineup of drums, bass, guitars, piano, organ, mellotron, keyboards, synths and vocals.

Some guests added mandolin, steel guitars, acoustic and electric guitars.

Italy has recently spawned some bands who are playing retro progressive prog, but not really RPI. Tritop and the others in this genre are more into the likes of Yes, Kansas, Gentle Giant and Queen. Four very different bands but bands who is still worthy being inspired by.

These band's genres and sounds has been distilled into this fifty minutes long album. An album full of admiration for the old masters and the joy of playing progressive rock. That is very evident throughout every second of this album.

The music is at times hard. It is also mellow and a bit pompous when the Queen influences shines through.

The music is full of interesting details and the vocals is really good. The songs, make that compositions, are long and complex.

There is a lot to like on this very good album. I really hope we will hear a lot more from this band in the future.
