Voivod - Voivod (2003)

The tenth album from this band from Canada.

The band is a quartet on this album with a lineup of drums, bass, guitars and vocals.

The band is celebrating their tenth album with this, a self-titled album. Releasing ten albums is a major achievement. In particular in the genres this band is jumping between.

The original vocalist Snake has returned again and the band has recruited the ex Metallica and Flotsam & Jetsam bassist for this album. You can even hear his bass on this album.

His bass is indeed adding a lot of value to a much changed landscape from the previous two albums. We are back in grunge and stoner rock again. There are even some heavy metal influences here.

The music is pretty avant-garde. This is still Voivod and the same philosophy.

The music is pretty melodic though. But this is not a melodic album. The music is still quirky and eclectic. This also very much helped by the snarling vocals.

The music is also very hard at times.

The result is a good album. It is not one of their best ones. But it rocks and there is enough details here to really make this album both interesting and good.
