Tangerine Dream - Hyperborea (1983)

The 15th album from this band from Germany.

The band was a trio with a lineup of drums, bass, guitars and synths.

You never really knows what to expect when it comes to Tangerine Dream albums. The music, and quality, varies album by album.

This is their final album on Virgin Records after Richard Branson signed them on the basis of Mike Oldfield's massive commercial success Tubular Bells. Virgin/Richard Branson thought Tangerine Dream would give him the same financial return. He was very much mistaken.

Commercial, cathcy music is not what we get from Tangerine Dream.

The music is melodic and has got some instruments here too. It is not a drone or an overly ambient album.

The music is rather dark melodic though. Depressive and gloomy is what most of the music on this forty minutes long album is.

The quality is somewhere between decent and good. The band has released better albums than this one.
