Letters Of Vakāra - Call It A Day (2024)

The debut album from this band from Germany.

The band is a quartet with a lineup of drums, bass, guitars, keyboards and vocals.

This album is another Bandcamp released album. A very good idea and I am a big fan of Bandcamp. It is a great idea to first release an album as a Bandcamp digital download and then perhaps crowdfund or create enough interest in LP or CD releases to not end up with hundreds of unsold items. Which is exactly what happened to me a quarter of a century ago.

Back to this German band..... Their music is pretty commercial though.

Take psych rock and add some laidback jazz and world music. World music with influences between Cairo and Madrid. We are talking about the countries around the Mediterranean Ocean.

The music is a mix of pastoral and mid-tempo. It is pretty jazzy throughout.

The female and the light vocals is pretty weird but still very good. Very artistic too and the vocals also function as an instrument in it's own right.

The music is also pretty progressive and this album should be lapped up and devoured by prog rock fans. A bit unusual music, but still progressive.

The quality is good throughout these forty-five minutes. I hope that we will hear a lot more from this band in the future.
