Southern Empire - Civilisation (2018)

The second album from this band from Australia.

The band was a quintet with a lineup of drums, percussion, bass, flugelhorn, mandolin, steel guitars, guitars, keyboards and vocals.

The band was helped by a trio of guests who added saxophones, violin and flutes.

Southern Empire is one of the two continuations of the excellent Australian band Unitopia who broke up in 2010'ish.

I have yet  to hear their debut album and I will add a review when I get it. In the meantime..... their second album Civilization.

There are four songs here. One of them clocks in at half an hour, another one at twenty minutes and the two other ones at ten minutes each.

The music is still a mix of Unitopia, Spock's Beard, Kansas, Yes and modern prog metal. The music is by no means all out symphonic prog.

The music is indeed intricate and full of details. It also have some beautiful melody lines and hooks.

The quality is good and this album is well worth checking out. It comes recommended.
