The 15th album from this Swedish band.
The band was a seven piece big band with a lineup of percussion, drums, bass, guitars, ukulele, moog, piano, organ. keyboards, synths and vocals.
A handful of guests added saxophones, accordion, bass and vocals.
The Flower Kings is one of the biggest bands in the prog rock scene since 1990. That is a fact. Maybe not in sold albums. But they are certainly one of the most influential bands since 1990.
They and Kaipa gave us the Scandinavian symphonic prog genre and sound.
By Royal Decree is clocking in at ninety-four minutes and it is a double album. That means a lot of things has to go right here as every listening sessions take that amount of time.
They are keeping the sound and the music. The music is really epic and the band has not gone down this pop-rock motorway. They have in fact made their music less accessible and more avant-garde symphonic prog on this album.
It has taken me some time to collect my thoughts about this album and get these into an opinion.
This album is indeed a very good album from some musicians who refuse to compromise. I can only admire Roine Stolt & Co for that.
This is one of their most mystical albums and a gift who will continue to give and give in the coming years and decades.
Check it out.
