Runemagick - Envenom (2005)

The eight album from this band from Sweden.

The band was a trio on this album with a lineup of drums, bass, guitars and vocals.

After seven death metal albums in the vein of Grave and Bolt Thrower, the band totally changed style and genre on Envenom.

No, they did not go down the commercial route. Instead, they even became less commercial. They went down the doom metal route.

The music is pretty muddy. The vocals is very growling and ditto for the instruments. That was done by intent.

The music is a dirtier version of My Dying Bride. There is still a lot of death metal ethos here too although the music is slow. Not as slow as in funeral doom, but still slow.

The quality is pretty decent throughout and this is not a bad album at all. It is a band in transition but they still manages to carry of a decent album. Doom metal fans should check out this album.
