Rose - Hooked on a Rose (1973)

The debut album from this band from Canada.

The band was a quartet with a lineup of drums, percussion, bass, guitars, keyboards and vocals.

This band released four albums between 1973 and 1977. The band later formed the highly successful AOR band Toronto who were very popular in Canada in the early 1980s.

Based on the debut album, I have tried to find their second album with no luck. I have however found their final two albums and they will be reviewed later this month.

The music on their thirty-five minutes long debut album Hooked On A Rose is a mix of blues, pop and acid folk rock. There are also some early Deep Purple influences here.

The music is a bit sugar sweet at times.... Well, after the blues'n'country first song on the album. A song not really representative for the rest of the album. A catchy song, though.

The rest of the album is as described over. The vocals is pretty decent and the same goes for the rest of the album. The vocal harmonies are pretty good, though.

This band is by no means in the same class as the likes of Rush or the Quebec scene. This is still a decent enough album and well worth checking out.
