Socrates Drank the Conium - Phos (1976)

The fourth album from this band from Greece.

The band was now a quintet with a lineup of drums, percussion, bass, guitars, keyboards and vocals.

The band had shortened their name to Socrates, a name they used for the remainder of their career. I still think they are around.... actually, due to the death of their main members during the last three years, the band has split up/has ceased to be.

Vangelis did the keyboards and produced this album. He was indeed a full member of Socrates on this album.

The album is mainly a rework and re-recording of their best songs from their previous albums. It is their most selling album too and the one they are most famous for.... for obvious reasons.

The music is some more mellow and pastoral versions of their wild and heavy stuff.

The music is still weird and wonderful. Vangelis has not tried to sanitise their music. Phos is still a weird album. Mostly because the music is still hard psych rock.

The result is a decent to good album. It is also an album well worth checking out if the 1970s psych rock scene is your thing.

This band was a weird band. Phos and their other albums is worth checking out.
