Wyatt. Robert - Ruth Is Stranger Than Richard (1975)

The third album from this artist from Great Britain.

Robert Wyatt does some of the drums, electric piano, piano, organ and all the vocals here.

He got help from a dozen of guests who added drums, bass, guitar, woodwinds and piano.

I reviewed his masterpiece and the forerunner to this album; Rock Bottom, back in November 2013 for # 1 of this blog, having reviewed his debut album for ProgArchives back in November 2009.

It is my aim to review the rest of his albums this winter.

Robert Wyatt was once a leading member of Soft Machine before he had an accident and became paraplegic. He still had a long career as a composer and a vocalist. An ongoing career and he is one of the national treasures in United Kingdom and in the world of music.

The music on the forty minutes long Ruth Is Stranger Than Richard is divided into a Ruth part and a Richard part. Strange but that is what it is.

The music is a mix of jazz and singer/songwriter rock.

The music is slow to mid-tempo. It is also pretty pastoral and very quirky. The music is mainly performed by Robert's vocals, piano and woodwinds.

The result is a good album. It is not as good as Rock Bottom. But it is still an album well worth checking out.
