The ninth album from this band from Norway.
The band was a quartet with a lineup of drums, percussion, bass, guitars, keyboards and vocals.
This is the follow up to the masterpiece Isa. An album which is one of the best ever progressive metal albums. Not to mention extreme metal.
How do you follow up an album like that ?
By continuing in the same path as Isa.
The problem is that the songs and the stuff on Isa was so good that it is more or less impossible to reach the same level again.
The band tried to reach that level.... the Isa level.... but failed. There is no shame in that.
Ruun is a bit more introvert and avant-garde than Isa too. Not everything they are trying on Ruun comes off and succeed.
The band still manage to combine progressive rock with extreme metal... viking metal. The stuff still feels fresh. Most of the stuff here is captivating.
Ruun is still a very good album and one to check out.
