Asfalto - Utopia (2008)

The 11th album from this band from Spain.

The band was a quintet here with a lineup of drums, bass, guitars, viola, keyboards and vocals.

The band soldiered on, years after their best days...

..Or was this their best days ? I am not sure because this band were always confined to Spain and Latin - America.

The band started out as a The Beatles covers band. That is their song performed in Spanish. I bypassed that album in my reviews of all their albums.

The music on the one hour long Utopia is a mix of Latin pop-rock and pomp rock. The inclusion of the pomp rock elements is the major difference between this album and their previous album. That move towards pomp rock also meant the band had to add keyboards and viola to their sound. Hence the move from a quartet to a quintet.

The vocals is good. There are some pretty good pieces of music here too. Nevertheless, most of the music here comes up a bit too short and is not of a good standard. Nevertheless, their move towards pomp rock was the right kind of move and the result is their best album for some time.
