Sfaratthons - La Bestia Umana (2016)

The debut album from this band from Italy.

The band was a quintet with a lineup of drums, bass, guitars, keyboards, saxophone and guitars.

Three guests added flute, saxophone and guitars.

I reviewed their second album, Appunti Di Viaggio, some weeks after it's release in 2019. An album I felt fell flat on it's face. It was not an enjoyable album.

The band released their third album some months ago and I got their debut album too as a part of this deal. I will review their third album next week or so.

This band is a RPI band and they play folk rock influenced RPI. Italian progressive rock, in other words. References is, surprisingly enough, both Jethro Tull and Biglietto Per I' Inferno. Add some Picchio Dal Pozzo too here to get the jazz too.

In other words, the music is a mix of folk rock, hard rock, prog and some jazz.

The vocals are good. There are some spoken, almost shouted vocals too. There is a lot of flutes here and some good saxophones. I am not a big fan of saxophones. But they are very good on this album and they have won me over.

The keyboards and guitars are also good.

The music is at times pastoral too and these forty minutes adds up to becoming a very good album. The songs are indeed very good and this is an album well worth checking out if RPI floats your boat.
