Kvazar - A Giant's Lullaby (2005)

The second album from this band from Norway.

The band was a quintet with a lineup of drums, bass, guitars, mandolin, mellotron, organ, rhodes organ, piano, synths, samples, programming and vocals.

A handful of guests added bass, guitars, flute, saxophone and female vocals.

Their debut album was OK'ish and an acceptable debut album somewhere between heavy prog and symphonic prog.

The band returned again five years later. Scandinavian symphonic prog is again a genre they explore on parts of this album.

The band has also added some detours, or explorations of laidback jazz, lounge jazz that is, rock and some psych rock. And yes, there is references to Anekdoten too on this one hour and five minutes long album.

The music is melodic and laidback. It is not ambient though as it has a lot of lounge jazz influences. This is adding a lot of quality to the music. Ditto for the mellotron and organs. The male and female vocals harmonies are also good.

The overall quality is indeed good. It is an album with a great deal of crossover potential between genres. Check it out.
