Sonus Filial - Sonus Filial (2024)

The debut album from this band from Norway.

The band was a sextet with a lineup of drums, bass, guitars, keyboards, saxophone and trombone.

This half an hour long album was recorded back in 1975 and the band was active in the mid-1970s before they folded. This album has now been picked up by a record label in Finland who has released it in two 50 x LP batches.

A copy has also been posted on Youtube, which is why you are now reading this review.

The sound is pretty good on this jazz album. Yes, this is a jazz/fusion album. It is more a jazz album than a fusion album, though.

It is not a particular melodic album. Neither is this a hardcore dense uber-technical jazz album. These four albums has got a nice variations of trombone, saxophone and guitar solos. There is not many of these but there are still some solos here. The music is full of small details and these are good details.

The result is a decent to good album. Those more into jazz will probably lap up this album in joy more than those of us who comes from a prog rock background. Jazzheads, check out this album.
