Folque - Dans, Dans, Olav Liljekrans (1978)

The fourth album from this band from Norway.

The band was a sextet with a lineup of drums, mandolin, bass, guitars, banjo, dulcimer, fiddle and vocals.

Folque has never really made a good impression in my world. I have rated their previous three albums as decent and just that.

They have been described as Norway's version of Steeleye Span. I slightly disagree as I feel Folque is far more a Norwegian folk music band than a band who has incorporated enough rock to be labeled as a folk rock band.

They have moved more towards rock this time....... but not enough to really deserve the rock label.

The music is dominated by Norwegian female and male vocals. The music is very traditional folk songs and not much from the international rock world has been added.

The vocals delivery is at times too much upfront and shouting. Less is more is not a rule incorporated on this album.

The title track is a good track and one of their best ever songs, if not their best song. The rest of this half an hour long album is decent enough.

If more traditional Norwegian folk music is your thing.....
