Avkrvst - The Approbation (2023)

The debut album from this band from Norway.

The band was a quintet with a lineup of drums, percussion, bass, guitars, keyboards and vocals.

With a name and cover like this, I can only congratulate the black and extreme metal scene with a new addition to their scene........ ehh......... ????

I could not have been more wrong.

The music here is a mix of Porcupine Tree, Opeth and some of the harder, bold neo-prog released during the last five years. There are also some djent in their music and some psych rock.

The vocals is really good. They are mostly clean vocals. The death growls, and there is not many of those, are very fitting in the themes they are used.

A lot of the music is atmospheric and melodic.

There is a lot of interesting themes and melodies on this album too. The music sounds modern and it is clearly inspired by a wide array of different genres and ideas. That makes these fifty minutes such an interesting journey.

The quality is also very good throughout this album. This is a cracking debut album and it leaves me wishing this band a long, healthy career. This band is one of the bigger new talents in the scene.
