Mamma Non Piangere - N.1 (1979)

The debut album from this band from Italy.

The band was a quartet with a lineup of glockenspiel, percussion, drums, bass, guitars, mandolin, violin, saxophone and vocals.

This rather semi-famous band released three albums between 1979 and 2016. Their second album released in 1980 is a live album and I will therefore bypass that album and review their third album next week.

The music here is simply chamber rock in the RIO/avant-garde mould. This band was pretty active in the avant-garde/RIO scene when it first arrived in the 1970s and the result is this this studio album.

The melodies is weird and quirky. Most of them performed with mandolin, saxophone and male or female vocals. The music is too, far too weird to be folk rock or folk music.

The vocals are good and the music is decent enough. This album is worth checking out for those who want to check out the avant-garde/RIO genre or are already a converted follower of that genre.
