Motorpsycho - It's A Love Cult (2002)

The tenth album from this band from Norway.

The band was a trio with a lineup of drums, percussion, bass, guitars, zither, mandolin, glockenspiel, harmonium, piano, organ, keyboards, mellotron, banjo and vocals.

Two guests added percusion, theremin, clavinette, mellotron, piano, organ and vocals.

Motorpsycho is a strange band who lives in their own universe. That to the benefit and joy for the rest of us as their albums are a bit of a sunray amongst pretty predictable bands and albums. Motorpsycho is thankfully a very unpredictable band.

The band is again exploring the sound of music from the final months of the 1960s. That means we get a bit beat, west coast rock, psych rock, beach rock, garage rock, brass rock, rock and progressive rock. This time, add some rockabilly too.

The tempo is slow to mid-tempo. There is a surprising amount of pastoral music here. Some lovely, tender tunes with some good vocals on the top.

The music is really good here and the band has again surprised me with these softly spoken fifty minutes. This is an album well worth checking out.
