The debut album from this band from Canada.
The band is a seven piece big band with a lineup of drums, percussion, bass, guitars, violin and vocals.
This is a new group in the Quebec scene. This scene has given us some really interesting bands like Maneige and Harmonium. The scene is still very active with some new bands popping up.
This half an hour long album gives us a mix of heavy prog, folk rock, eclectic prog and some jazz.
The female vocals are partly soprano. They are also great.
The music is lush and flowery. It has a homely, cosy feel. The music is also complex and eclectic at the same time.
In addition to the vocals... the music is also pretty much benefiting from the half-acoustic guitars and the violins. The drums is also really good here with the bass underpinning the good songs.
Pourpre is very much an album that promises a lot and I hope we will hear a lot more from the band in the future.
