Yobrepus - A Rhizome Revolution Part 1 (2024)

The second album from this band from Norway.

The band is a quartet with a lineup of drums, percussion, bass, guitars, keyboards, synths, loops, saxophone and vocals.

A handful of guests added guitars, violas, violins, cello, loops and piano.

This is one of the new'ish bands from Norway who has bypassed me as I am writing these lines from an office many hundreds of miles from Norway. Hence, my radar has it's faults.

The band released their debut album in 2020 and I have just ordered it for a review sometimes later this year.

A Rhizome Revolution is an album in two parts, released with a six months split between part 1 and 2.

The music is art-rock. Very quirky art-rock.

Take a mix of The Beatles, Gentle Giant and A-Ha. Add in some King Crimson and Yes too. You get thirty-five minutes of music which is running in all directions. It is like herding a flock of wild cats. The music is that diverse.

The music is elegant, though... Very elegant but not sweet or sugary.

The music is most of all quirky. It is not particular dissonant or even eclectic. But it has a lot of twists and turns.

The result is a very good album indeed. It is an album that surprises me. Part 2 will be released 18. October. I cannot wait.
