Evraak - Evraak 1 (2021)

The debut album from this band from Japan.

The band was a sextet with a lineup of drums, bass, guitars, keyboards, saxophone and vocals.

This is a new band to me and to most people outside Japan. They have released two albums... the last one was released last year and a review of that album will follow later this month.

This one hour long album was first released through their Bandcamp page and then, one year later, released on CD and LP through a record label.

The music on this one hour long album is a mix of eclectic prog, neo-prog, art-rock and Japanese symphonic prog.

There are a lot of Van Der Graaf Generator in their music. Ditto for Genesis and Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso too.

The vocals is thin and not particular impressive. Ditto for the guitars who sounds weak and too far back in the mix. There is a lot of saxophones here and those has got a far too prominent place in the mix. More guitars and less saxophones would have made the sound a lot better.

There are some good melodies and pieces of music here though and this album is somewhere between a decent and a good album. I am looking forward to sinking my ears into their second album. This band has both guts and talent.
