Filibuster Saloon. The - Going Off Topic (2023)

The debut album from this band from USA.

The band was ten piece big band with a lineup of xylophone, marimba, percussion, bass, accordion, guitars, strings, woodwinds, piano, electric piano and programming.

I take it that this is a studio project more than a band as it has somewhere between ten and twenty listed contributors. The album has been digitally released through Bandcamp too.

And no, it is not a rock band. We are more in the RIO/avant-garde area..... although the music is jazzy and quirky. There is also some zeuhl here. It has been suggested that the band and this album has more in common with the Canterbury scene than any other scene.

All above is correct as the band is visiting areas normally visited by Jean Luc Ponty and Aranis.

The music is both quirky and melodic. There is a lot of xylophone and marimba here. Ditto for violins.

The music is good throughout.

This half an hour long album reveals that this band/project is one of the more talented entities in today's scene. I hope we will hear a lot more from them in the future.
