The seventh album from this band from Canada.
The band was a trio with a lineup of drums, guitars, keyboards and vocals.
A guest provided bass.
Voivod is without any doubts one of the most influential progressive metal bands around...... so I have been told. I am reviewing their albums and is finding a lot of interesting music.
The band has moved from being a post-punk thrash metal band to being a.......... gosh...... they have changed a lot from their first four albums. That is for sure.
The music here is a mix of progressive metal, quirky hard prog, grunge and psych rock.
The band is pretty influenced by Pink Floyd. But not the guitar wailing, melodic part of their music. Voivod is very much in the vein of the more quirky, eclectic part of Pink Floyd's discography. One of the songs on this album is indeed a Pink Floyd cover, The Nile Song from the More soundtrack.
Sometimes, the band also reminds me about Rush, their post millenium albums.
The music on The Outer Limits is quirky and pretty melodic too. It is hard music though and it is clever.
This is indeed a very good album from a band who deserves a lot of attention.
