Tars - Per Aspera (2024)

The debut album from this band from Belgium.

The band is a one-man-band with Damien Polfliet doing the drums, bass, guitars, electronix and vocals.

How many of the instruments are computer generated is something I do not know. But the instruments sounds legitimate to me.

One man bands tends to deliver undercooked and underdeveloped albums. Hence, I now tend to avoid albums from those. Listening to this album before finding out that this was a one man band album, I thought this was an album from a band.

And with good reasons.... It feels like a trio or even a quartet band album.

The most important here is the music.

The music is a dark and heavy mix of post rock and space rock. There is also some ambient music and some psych rock here too.

The music is indeed heavy and the guitars has a very nice sound and identity. It is not the usual bland riffs and themes the guitars are churning out.

The music is very groovy too and has some nice themes and time-changes. The ambience is good and the melodies good.

And then we get some minutes of vocals on this one hour long album. That towards the end and as a final surprise on a good album.

This is indeed a good album and a big surprise too. More albums, Damien. More albums, please.....
