Alpha III - Voyage to Ixtlan (1993)

The tenth album from this band from Brazil.

The band was this time a quartet with a lineup of drums, bass, guitars and keyboards.

The band had help from additional guitarist and drummer.

I cannot say that Amyr Cantusio Jr and his Alpha III band has impressed me so far. 1980s synths sound on some pretty basic music is not something that floats my boat. The sound has been pretty poor too.

Then he gets together a band and comes up with this album...

This album gives us over one hour of a mix of fusion and space rock. Mostly fusion, it has to be said.

This very much feels like another band than the one-man-band. And it is.

The sound is pretty thin and Amyr's synths is pretty bombastic. I am not a fan of his synths and they falls a bit flat on their face when compared to the superior guitars.

The music is pretty good and this is by far the best Alpha III encountered so far.

The sound is the only thing that is not up to the good standard set by the music itself. Nevertheless....
