Turning Point - Creatures of the Night (1977)

The debut album from this band from Great Britain.

The band was a quintet with a lineup of drums, percussion, bass, synths, piano, electric piano, saxophones and wordless female voice.

This band evolved out of Isotope, another band from Great Britain who released three albums between 1974 and 1975.

Turning Point went on to release two albums themselves. A retrospective album with outtakes and lives has just been released and I may or may not review it next week. I have yet to get hold of their album # 2.

Creatures Of The Night gives us three quarters of an hour with jazz in the Canterbury vein. The wordless female vocals adds a lot of humour and insanity to the jazz on this album.

The music is both piano and saxophone dominated, besides of the wordless voices.

The music is also very much laid back and based on solos from the various instruments. Mostly solos from the saxophones.

The quality is somewhere between decent and good.

Check out this album if jazz or British jazz is your thing.
