Marekvist - Solrenning (2021)

The debut album from this band from Norway.

The band is an eight piece big band/project with a lineup of drums, percussion, bass, guitars, organs, electronics and vocals.

This is a new band to me who released their second album last year. I will review that album too later this month.

Their music is a bit difficult to describe. It falls into the experimental category.

OK... let's start with, as this album starts with, some Norwegian folk tones, then add some jazz, avant-garde progressive rock and some post rock.

The music is rather understated and softly spoken. There are some sporadic cascades of guitars.... post-rock style. But most of this album is softly spoken and gentle.

The voices, females, adds a lot to this album. The mix up of Norwegian folk tones and jazz on a couple of the tracks are special, yes. It gives this album an identity and sets the tone for this band.

The quality is decent enough and it an album well worth checking out.
