Help Yourself - Help Yourself (1971)

The debut album from this band from Great Britain.

The band was a quartet with a lineup of drums, percussion, bass, guitars, keyboards, harmonica and vocals.

This band released four albums between 1971 and 1973. They also released an album in 2004 with some comeback songs and archive material from 1973. These five albums are up for reviews this winter in this blog.

I love the cover art-work on this album and that made me purchase this two albums for one double CD. Then I got the rest of their albums.

Their recording career and the first song on this album, their debut album, starts with a song about seeing Jesus. The music is slightly gospel and with a country'n'western folk rock feel. That song comes as a surprise..... It is a decent enough song. It does not represent the rest of this album.

The music here is acid folk rock with some psych influences. The music is pretty melodic and not so vocals focused as most folk rock albums are. The musicians are given plenty of space. Ditto for the good vocals.

The quality of the music is somewhere between decent and good. I do understand those who rates this album as a cult album. It is indeed a pretty unique album.
