Embryo - Surfin' (1975)

The seventh album from this German band.

The band was a trio with a lineup of drums, marimba, percussion, vibes, bass, guitars, clavinet, organ, piano, mellotron, sitar, saxophone and vocals.

Two guests provided flutes and saxophones.

Embryo had so far released six albums of various genre and indeed; quality.

Surfin sees the band adopt their take on krautrock to a more west coast of USA surfing ambience and style.

There is a lot of fusion and funk here. There is also some Beach Boys like surf music. Well, the band tried to adopt some of their music towards surf music. But they failed.

The music is through and through krautrock and the music is not too bad. It is a bit silly now and then. But most of the music is rather good.

The end result is an album somewhere between decent and good. I am not won over by this krautrock does surfing experiment.
